Making A Choctaw Bow and Arrows from the Land We Live On

Updated: Sep 25

Traditional archery is the art of our grandfathers. With time-honored craftsmanship, they melded tree, stick, stone and feather to create powerful, reliable weapons that they depended on for harvesting meat and protecting their communities. Over the past couple of months, I've been putting together a set of traditional Choctaw archery tackle from raw materials that come from right here on Nan Awaya Farm. This post brings you on the journey with me of putting the set together, through the form of a photo essay.

Well, that completes the archery set. I've been making traditional bows and arrows since early high school, but this set will always have a special meaning to me because it is such a literal part of the landscapes that we live on at Nan Awaya Farm. It will be out on these landscapes with me hunting deer here in about a week. Hopefully, it might be part of another blog post someday.
