Pointy Things
The Choctaw word for weapons "na halupa", literally means "pointed things". Stone projectile points (aka "arrowheads') are more than just pretty shapes. Each style is tied to Tribal homelands and raw materials, to specific kinds of tools, and to techniques passed down though generations. Because of their durability against time, stone points are one of the oldest pieces of traditional culture that you can hold in your hand, literally. I mostly work in stone types and styles that represent the Choctaw homeland (western AL, eastern MS), the area I grew up (western MO/eastern KS), and the Choctaw Nation Reservation (southeastern OK). I use traditional tools made of antler, bone, and stone to shape the rock. Here is some of my work mostly from 2024-2025. Like every old point, every point that I make tells a story. Click on any point to read its story, or click on the second point and use the scroll arrow to read them all.
