Out of Earth

I started trying to teach myself traditional pottery when I was 8. My pots blew up in the fire, because I didn't know what I was doing, but I stuck with it. Later, I found a couple of amazing teachers, who helped me a lot. Today, I work exclusively in ancestral Choctaw pottery styles and only use clay hand-dug from Choctaw lands, tempered with burned mussel shell, sand, Spanish moss, or other appropriate materials. Every vessel I make is fired traditionally in a well-controlled bonfire and is intended for use, as you will see. I started teaching community traditional pottery classes for Choctaw Nation in 2009. To date, I've led more than 300 traditional pottery firings. Click on the second pic and scroll to read about these pieces.
